New in Theaters: “The Amateur” and “Drop”

1.  “The Amateur”  (PG-13)  Trailer

Rami Malek plays an introverted CIA decoder whose wife dies in a London terrorist attack.  And when his supervisors at Langley refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands and hunts down those responsible.  The rest of the cast includes Laurence FishburneRachel Brosnahan“Punisher” stud Jon Bernthal, and Caitriona Balfe from “Outlander”.

2.  “Drop”  (PG-13)  Trailer 1 and Trailer 2

Meghann Fahy plays a single mom being terrorized during a first date as she receives anonymous airdrops on her phone from a hooded figure threatening to kill her son and babysitter if she doesn’t follow his instructions and kill her date.

It’s directed by Christopher Landon, the guy who did the “Happy Death Day” movies.  Some of you would probably know Meghann as Daphne Sullivan, the breakout star from the second season of HBO’s “White Lotus”.

3.  “Warfare”  (R)

It’s written and directed by Iraqi War vet Ray Mendoza, and set during the Iraq War in 2006.  The story follows a platoon of Navy SEALs fighting their way to an extraction point after their position is overrun by insurgents.

The supporting cast includes Joseph Quinn from “Stranger Things”Cosmo Jarvis from “Shogun”Will Poulter, Netflix heartthrob Noah Centineo, and Michael (son of James) Gandolfini.

4.  “The King of Kings”  (PG)  Trailer

An animated Christian film about a young author named Charles Dickens, who’s telling his son the story of Jesus Christ as a bedtime story and then gets caught up in the boy’s imagination.

Kenneth Branagh plays Dickens, Uma Thurman is his wife, and the rest of the voice cast includes Mark Hamill as King Herod, Pierce Brosnan as Pontius Pilate, Oscar Isaac as Jesus, and Forest Whitaker as Peter.
