New in Theaters: “Trap” and “Harold and the Purple Crayon”

1.  “Harold and the Purple Crayon”  (PG)  Trailer

This adaptation of the classic 1955 children’s book stars Zachary Levi as Harold.  He has a magic purple crayon that can make anything he draws come to life, and now that’s he grown-up he uses it to leave his storybook and visit the real world.

Alfred Molina is the narrator, Lil Rey Howery is Harold’s traveling companion, Zooey Deschanel is a single mom whose son befriends them, and Jemaine Clement is the bad guy, a librarian who wants to steal the power of the crayon for himself.

2.  “Trap”  (PG-13)  Trailer 1 and Trailer 2

Josh Hartnett plays a serial killer trying to bond with his teenage daughter at a concert.  Once he realizes the cops are using it as an elaborate trap for him, he stirs up chaos while trying to figure out a way to escape and get away with at least one more kill.

It’s written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, and his daughter Saleka plays Lady Raven, the pop star whose concert they’re attending.  She actually wrote 14 songs for the movie and you can check her singing out at LadyRavenMusic.com.

The cast also includes Alison Pill as the Butcher’s wife, Kid Cudi as one of the other performers, and 78-year-old “Parent Trap” star Hayley Mills as the FBI profiler setting the trap.
