For anyone who’s never seen the 2009 original, it’s back in theaters after being remastered in 4K to give you a refresher for the upcoming sequels. “Avatar” is about humans invading an alien planet in search of a mineral that can solve Earth’s energy crisis.
Sam Worthington plays a paraplegic soldier who infiltrates the blue-skinned aliens through an “avatar” . . . a genetically engineered alien body that he controls with his mind. But he falls for a female alien and switches sides.
Sigourney Weaver plays the doctor flipping his mind back and forth between bodies and Michelle Rodriguez is his pilot.
There are actually FOUR long-awaited sequels in development.
The first one, “Avatar: The Way of Water“, comes out this year, on December 16th.

. . . In select theaters and on Apple TV+ . . . “Sidney“, a documentary about legendary actor Sidney Poitier, who passed away earlier this year at age 94. He was the first African-American to win a Best Actor Oscar, and his refusal to play a subservient role paved the way for Black respect in Hollywood. (Trailer)
