THE GOLDEN GLOBES

MEL GIBSON was a presenter at the “Golden Globes” last night, and they let RICKY GERVAISintroduce him.  And he definitely let him have it. First Ricky complained about how awkward it was for him to introduce Mel, since he’d made jokes about him at a previous ceremony.  Ricky blamed NBC for this, then added, quote, “Mel blames . . . we know who Mel blames.” Then he made fun of Mel’s drinking, and added, quote, “I’d rather have a drink with him in his hotel room tonight, than with Bill Cosby.” Then Mel came out, gave Ricky a hug and said, quote, “I love seeing Ricky every three years, because it reminds me to get a colonoscopy.” Then Ricky leaned in to Mel and asked him a question that NBC CENSORED.  The actual question was yet another reference to Mel’s drunken anti-Semitic rant.  He said, quote, “What the [eff] does Sugar [Boobs] even mean?” As you probably recall, that’s what Mel called a female cop during his arrest.

(You can see UNCENSORED video of the question here.  Here’s the full exchange between Ricky and Mel.  And here’s Ricky’s full opening monologue.  Careful!  There’s some sexual innuendo.)

1.  Ricky Gervais upset the Internet with some CAITLYN JENNER jokes during his monologue.  He said, quote, “I’ve changed, not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously.”

2.  He also said Caitlyn’s done a lot to break down stereotypes, but, quote, “She didn’t do a lot for women drivers.”  (Here’s video.)

3.  Ricky was responsible for another awkward moment when he introduced MATT DAMON as, quote, “the only person who Ben Affleck hasn’t been unfaithful to.”

4.  LEONARDO DICAPRIO and KATE WINSLET both won Globes, and they shared a hug that inspired everyone to make the same, tired “Titanic” joke about never letting go.

5.  JAMIE FOXX pulled a STEVE HARVEY by “accidentally” announcing the wrong winner of the Best Original Score award.

6.  JIM CARREY reportedly went off-script while presenting an award, joking about being a two-time Golden Globe winner, but needing a third.

7.  SYLVESTER STALLONE got a standing ovation when he won Best Supporting Actor for “Creed”.  But during his speech, he thanked everyone except director RYAN COOGLER and star MICHAEL B JORDAN.

Some famous black people, including Samuel L. Jackson, called him out.  But sources say he went back onstage during the BREAK to correct the error.  Obviously, that didn’t air.

8.  LADY GAGA was probably the most emotional winner of the night.  Like Stallone, she thanked a ton of people, but forgot someone important:  her fiancé TAYLOR KINNEY.  And he was there.  Gaga won Best Actress in a Limited Series for “American Horror Story”.

And Leonardo DiCaprio’s reaction was priceless, when she bumped his arm on the way to the stage.

9.  TARAJI P. HENSON actually passed out cookies when she won Best Actress in a TV Drama for playing Cookie on “Empire”.  Then she went off when the show tried to get her to wrap up her acceptance speech.

10.  “The Revenant” was one of the night’s big winners, picking up Best Drama, Best Director, and Best Actor forLEONARDO DICAPRIO“The Martian” won Best comedy, and MATT DAMON got Best Actor in a Comedy for it.

Other winners included Jennifer Lawrence, Jon Hamm, Christian Slater, the animated film “Inside Out”, and the USA Network series “Mr. Robot”.

Unless you take fashion WAY too seriously, you would not have seen anything LIFE-ALTERING on the red carpet at last night’s “Golden Globes”.  But there were some mildly interesting looks, at least to a casual observer. Here are a few highlights:

For starters, a lot of the ladies were wearing low-cut gowns . . . including Kirsten Dunst,Olivia Wilde, Jaime Alexander, Joanne Froggatt, Zendaya, and Jenna Dewan-Tatum

As for their DATES, Jason Sudeikis was wearing sneakers, and not everyone understood Channing Tatum’shair.  (Here’s more on that.) One person who actually DIDN’T have a low-cut gown was Jennifer Lopez, although she did have a thigh-high slit in her dress, 200 carats of diamonds . . . and a cape. The cleavage-revealing gowns were no surprise . . . but the number of women wearing CAPES was.  They included:  Taraji P. Henson, Regina King, Cate Blanchett, Jada Pinkett Smith, Viola Davis, J-Lo, Saoirse Ronan, and Emilia Clarke.

Elsewhere, Melissa McCarthy wore some sort of metallic-looking dress . . . and Amy Schumer talked to Ryan Seacrest about how her VAGINA ITCHED.  (Here’s video.) Moving on to the ceremony, there was an amusing vaguely style-related moment when Aziz Ansari held up afake book titled “Losing to Jeffrey Tambor with Dignity:  There’s No Shame in Being Second Best”Aziz was right, he didn’t win.  But neither did Jeffrey.  They both lost to “Mozart in the Jungle” star Gael Garcia Bernal in the Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Comedy category.  (Here’s video.) And when Denzel Washington went up to accept his Cecil B. DeMille Award, he brought along his son John David Washington . . . and people couldn’t stop talking about how HOT he is on social media. Speaking of people the Internet fell in love with, there’s also the father of nine-year-old Jacob Tremblay from“Room”.  The dad was just accompanying Jacob . . . but more people were staring at HIM.  Oh and ladies, he’s a police detective!

Buzzfeed has an amusing gallery of “22 Celebrity Faces That Summed Up This Year’s Golden Globes” . . . and the “Huffington Post” has a rundown of the best GIFs from the Globes. (And if you ACTUALLY care about the nuances of celebrity fashion, here are some Best Dressed lists from E! Online, “USA Today“, and “Vanity Fair“.) (And here are some Worst Dressed lists from E! Online, “USA Today“, and the “Daily Mail“.  And here are “Entertainment Weekly’s” thoughts.)
